P.O. Box 254 Enameled Objects for the HomeJudy Stone is one of a small group of people worldwide who call themselves enamelists. Enameling, the centuries-old process of fusing glass to metal with high heat, is a very difficult medium to control. It requires that the enamelist understand the intricate dance of metal, glass and heat. It demands an understanding of color used three-dimensionally. Judy Stone, whether she's creating sculptural vessels or large-scale wall pieces, is an enamel artist in complete control of her medium. News from the Enameling Studio
Stone is considering converting this pithy section of her home page into a blog. But until then. . . The year is almost halfway done and Stone's predictions about this being a transition year have proven true. The consequences of being in an economically "disadvantaged" profession, trying to coordinate an international conference with volunteer energy, and complications from recent eye surgery have all resulted in Stone being absent from her studio for long periods of time. Studio time provides both a relief from stress and a continuing exploration of her creative process. Although she is no longer producing her enameled copper light switch covers, her vessels are being created at a slow but steady pace. Most of her time however is being spent coordinating the 2009 Biennial Enamelist Society Conference, which will be held this August in Oakland, California. She will be doing very few crafts fairs this year but will try to put images of her latest work on this site when she can see better. She still has some switchcovers for sale which can be purchased by contacting her. Home - About
