Enameling and the World of Arts and Crafts

Enameling instruction is very important to Stone.  Listings of classes and workshops can be found at:

Some of the best places in the U.S. to learn are at the institutions listed below:

In Northern California here are some very fine places to learn enameling:

The Northern California Enamel Guild newsletter has up-to-date class/workshop listings as well as other important resource information.

Besides the various enamel guilds in the U.S., there is one national organization. Stone is on the Board of Trustees of this organization. The web site provides resources for everything concerning enameling.

To be connected to the "world" of enameling check out the following sites:

Information on enameling steel or cast iron is usually accessed through

Enameling supplies are sometimes hard to come by. Here are some of the chief suppliers:

  • Enamelwork Supply is a one-person supplier. Coral Shaffer believes in customer service and her supplies are superior. She carries Japanese enamels and hard-to-find supplies.  E-mail for a catalogue.
  • Thompson Enamel is the chief manufacturer and supplier of enamels and enameling supplies in the United States. Publishes Glass on Metal 5 times a year.
  • Rio Grande is starting a new enamel supply catalogue for which Stone is a consultant.
  • Schlaifer's Enameling Supplies distributes Thompson Enamels on-line.
  • Vcella Kilns are the best made enameling kilns on the market.
  • Metalliferous is a supplier of copper shapes and miscellaneous metal supplies.

Here are some web sites of other artists from all over the world which show a wide range of enameling techniques and information about enameling:
